Firmware is updated through the bootloader and driver. A binary (.bin) version of the firmware file is needed for this purpose.

Review the "How to duraTOUCH^®?" tutorial to define the requirements. Once you understood the flow, download all the documents  required during the design phase. If necessary, obtain a devkit relevent to your application, download the SDK and explore the touch performance.
