Trade-offs between different stackups

  • On-cell sensors save cost by reducing one layer, the sensor is on the color filter glass.
  • Optical quality is a tradeoff when choosing film sensors
    • The transmissivity of Film is lesser than that of the glass
  • Discrete glass sensors provide a high optical quality
  • Direct bonding is more expensive, but has advantages over airgap.
    • Contrast is enhanced by suppressing the reflection & refraction of light at each interface
    • Adhesion area is increased and rigidity is improved
    • Higher manufacturing yield
  • Glass cover lens is preferred when using discrete glass sensor.
  • PMMA cover lens is less expensive than glass cover lens
